There is a certain thrill for a six year old to be able to read a book on a chromebook.
For some reason, their attention is instantly grabbed.
I am a first grade teacher in a Title One school.
My school is located in the Bronx, New York and is extremely overcrowded. Although I have 29 children in my class, we all seem to work together. My students are energetic and always curious. Curiosity is a wonderful thing for a teacher to build upon.
My Project
The only problem is getting computers into my classroom for my little ones. There is only one class set of 32 computers for the entire school to share. I consider myself extremely lucky to get my hands on these elusive computers once every couple of weeks. To me, that is simply insane!
My students need to be on a computer more than once in a while.
By obtaining three computers, all of my students' problems will be solved. They will have easy access to the computers. I will be able to use the computers not only for scientific research, but to enhance other projects through authentic research projects. In a first grade classroom, this would be truly awesome.
Imagine six-year-olds who confidently take a computer, and with great energy, take control of their own learning. This dream can only happen with the three requested Chromebook computers at their disposal. That is what I really wish for my students. Thank you for your consideration.
