This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students need supplies! Unlike most classrooms where the cabinets are exploding with art supplies and crafts, ours is pretty barren. We have one box of pencils left, not enough white board markers for each student to use one at the same time, our crayons are broken, and our markers used up.
My students deserve to have the supplies that they need to do their best work in school!
No one wants to sit and work with crayon numbs or tiny pencils that have been sharpened to almost nothing and have no erasers left. My students are incredibly challenged, mostly Hispanic or African American, from a highly economically- and socially-challenged neighborhood in NE Denver. They have a great deal of behavior issues and most are more than a full year behind academically. My goal for these sweet, innocent kids is to help close the achievement gap that these students face every day, to help empower them to be lifelong learners and high achievers. Having new supplies will help support that goal in a small but very real way!!
My Project
I am requesting very basic supplies: a class set of crayons, a class set of markers for paper, enough white board markers to last all school year, and pencils!!! These are the supplies that every school needs, but many are unable to provide with all the budget cuts, and many of my families cannot provide for their students.
This project is essential because my students need and deserve the tools they need to do their best in school.
Being able to have sharp pencils, markers that work, and class sets of supplies so no one has to go without will go a long way towards helping our academically behind students feel motivated and work to reach the goal of catching up and exceeding their expectations.
