Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have 26 eager to learn first graders. Many of my students' meals are only the meals that come from the school cafeteria. The end of the month is especially hard because there is no food in the house. If they are hungry, they are not learning.
Despite their struggles at home, I have the sweetest class.
We have a close classroom community and they are all eager to learn. I look forward every morning to see their smiling faces. I love my job! I have 16 out of 26 students who are language learners. They either speak Spanish or Hmong at home. Because some of them are language learners, school can be challenging. I incorporate the arts into my classroom on a weekly basis to meet every child's' learning needs. I think this is why my students enjoy coming to school.
My Project
By having a color printer and color printer refills, I will be able to print engaging, small group activities/games in math and in language arts. By having these games in my classroom, it gives me a chance to pull small groups for those students who are struggling academically. I will be able to focus on my small group and not be interrupted by the other students who are bored. My students will have something fun to do!
As Ben Franklin said, "Tell me and I forget.
Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn". I am sure you much rather learn by doing an activity rather than by doing a worksheet, right? I have many engaging games and activities that I want my students to participate in, I just need a color printer to do so. Thank you for taking the time to read my story.
