First Graders Need a Carpet for Learning & Reading!

My students need a carpet to sit on for instruction, play, and reading.

This project is fully funded

I teach First Grade at a charter school in California that serves a low income, high need community. Our mission is to instill academic literacy, civic literacy and finally, artistic literacy in our students. Specifically, we integrate visual arts and music into our academic curriculum.

Recently, our classroom carpets were infested with fleas and ALL of our carpet was thrown out, leaving us with a cold cement floor. Because our school has recently frozen any additional spending, we have been using carpet square samples to sit on. Unfortunately, this is not a long term solution.

We need a large colorful classroom carpet that will fit all 20 students and provides an individual place for everyone with a variety of seating options. This carpet would be used during whole group instruction as well as our reading and play time. First graders learn best when they have their own clearly defined space. With large color coded squares, they can move from rows to a circle in a matter of seconds. This carpet is also soil and fire resistant, and designed with young children in mind.
