First Graders Love to Read Nonfiction Books

My students need 53 nonfiction book titles from "Archaeologists Dig for Clues" to "Where Do Puddles Go" to read during Readers Workshop. With the books I am requesting, my students will be able to research their topics and create their own informational books.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Gonzalez's classroom raised $385

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students do not get exposed to enough nonfiction books in the primary grades. I am guilty of providing my students with mostly fiction books to chose from. In order to change this, I need several nonfiction books for my classroom library.

At my school, we have Reader's Workshop as part of our balanced reading curriculum.

Reader's Workshop allows students to read books at their "just right level." Every student has the opportunity to feel successful as they read appropriate books. My students love Reader's Workshop time. They love reading and talking about their books.

My Project

We will begin nonfiction writing and reading units in January. During this time, students will be emerged in nonfiction reading; learning about various topics of their choice. Then, they will become experts and teach the rest of the class through their nonfiction writing. Unfortunately, my classroom library does not have sufficient nonfiction books. With the book I am requesting, my students will be able to research their topics and create their own informational books.

These books will allow every student in my classroom to have access to age appropriate nonfiction books.

They will also allow my students to become experts on their topics of choice.
