Imagine moving to a new country. You walk into a classroom and you may not have ever had any formal education before. You have never read or written and you have this smiling teacher talking to you in a language you don't understand. These are the students I teach every day.
My students have come from all around the world, from many different and often difficult situations.
I have a wonderful group of first grade students. Each one of them is a sponge absorbing all that is around them. I teach in a high-poverty area. Many of my students families work two and three jobs.
My students and their families are wonderful and goodhearted. Many of my students are refugees from Iraq, East and Central Africa.
My classroom represent children from all walks of life. I strive to build a classroom community that supports each student's academic and social well-being! I feel lucky to be their teacher and want to give them the materials they need to flourish!
My Project
"Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars," says Les Brown. Children need every opportunity to learn to read and write. By having a library with a variety of books and ' just right' materials, students will learn through enriching experiences. These experiences will pave the way for our future leaders!
I would like my students to learn about the world around them and become inspired to write their own non-fiction books.
I hope to inspire my students in their writing through non-fiction books. Writing requires lots of skills and practice.
Do you remember the feeling of picking up a pencil and being stuck? It is at the beginning of literacy where children begin to build confidence and take risks. I am asking for flair pens (a special pen that helps students write),highlighters, post -its, pencils, chart paper, and construction paper . In addition, I have asked for bins and folders for students to store their beautiful pieces of art! Writing is a wonderful way for students to be creative in learning about the world around them. Having these materials will help them build upon Foundational Literacy Skills.
When reading these books to the class, students will be able to able to see the pictures and have a visual understanding of how to write non-fiction books on their own.Lastly, to instill and ingrain a love of reading, students must be focused and ready to learn. We need 6 squishy seats to help students stay focused.
