Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I want my students to begin using technology to open their minds to the world around them and engage with learning in a fun way! Our school has access to computer programs such as "Epic" and "IReady". Each of these is a program where each child has an individual account that is targeted to that particular child's needs. "Epic" gives children the opportunity to read books at their level, record themselves, and answer questions about the books they read! "IReady" assesses where the students are in both math and literacy and based on these assessments, creates individualized lessons that supports growth in these areas of weakness. Additionally, my students want to begin publishing their stories like real writers do by typing them up and printing them! A computer would really help us feel like writers!
In order for my first graders to work within these targeted programs each week and to feel like real writers, we need a computer and printer in our classroom for them to learn and work!
Because many of our families do not have books at home or people with whom they can read, access to these programs would give them books at their fingertips! Because both programs targets each individual child, each feels successful working at his or her own academic level. The best part is that the children LOVE learning using these programs!
Also, being able to type their own stories and print them like real authors will help them fall in love with the writing process and become authors themselves!
