This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My first graders are early writers. They learn to write narratives, reports of information, poems and letters. They love to type their stories on the class computer add pictures and print them out. Unfortunately, we have a limited paper supply and the printer runs out of ink very quickly.

My first graders reside in a high poverty area located East Harlem, New York.

Many of them live in nearby shelters. They are energetic, inquisitive and very eager to learn. School is "home" to them and they come to school every day. They love playing games and listening to stories.

My Project

Writing instruction is a difficult process for some young children. They are often reluctant writers. It is important for me to motivate them to love writing and build their writing skills. I do this with the class computer. They "type" their stories on the computer and add pictures and are able to print out their published writing. I am in need of paper and ink for the class computer and printer.

This project is important because not only to assist in enhancing their writing skills, it also allows my student to become familiar with technology.

The students will be able to learn how to use a computer.
