This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Keep first graders engaged! I teach first grade in a K-8 school in a large city. My classroom is a buzz of activity with thirty students cheering each others' achievements in reading, writing, math, science and social studies. The children are truly a community of learners who are reassured that it's OK to make mistakes and that is in fact, how people learn. All of my students truly enjoy STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning because it's fun! My students need STEM materials to stay engaged.
My Project
Research proves that children learn best when doing "hands-on" activities. I would like my students to be able to watch the life cycle of darkling beetles and butterflies in the classroom. As they observe changes day by day, it will be something that they'll remember by experiencing it!
My twenty-nine students are a wonderfully diverse group of first graders.
They have different cultural backgrounds and different abilities. We are am inner city school. One thing that is the same for all of students is that they're eager to learn and they love to do science experiments! My class truly learns by doing. This group particularly loves animals!
