My Students

My students are a sweet group of firsties who come from many different countries including Africa, Palestine, Iraq, Brazil, China, Japan, the Congo, Spain and the Dominican Republic.

They are an excited and eager bunch! A portion of my students qualify for refugee status and coming to America has been exciting and overwhelming as they adapt and learn the language and customs. Many are first generation English speakers.

My Project

My students need engaging literature to take them to places that they have never been before and to give them experiences that they might not otherwise have. These stories will provide specific examples of how first graders can be leaders. Wordless books and stories will benefit all of my students, but especially by ESL students who can express what they see without having to read a single word.

With these stories, my students will learn what really happened to the Three Little Pigs, The Three Little Wolves and the Big, Bad Pig (as told by the wolves), Cinderella from around the world, perspective and many, many others.
