Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that." Stephen King. With this text collection, I can ask my students to write like the author that they've read.

I teach twenty-eight amazing first-graders in an inner city K-8 school.

My classroom is a stimulating, creative environment. Students encourage each other to learn from their mistakes and grow. It is truly a community of learners. These children will be classmates until the 8th-grade, and I encourage them to be caring classroom citizens.

My Project

As we strive to meet common core standards, students will read closely for understanding as a whole class. When we break into small group instruction, I will work with one group at a time. The rest of the class will be reading independently or in small groups. I envision the small groups reading the selected books which are tied to the common core standards. These are books that closely related to our units of study. I have asked for books on cds, so that even non-readers will be able to successfully read independently. Then students will be asked to write a narrative and an informational piece like the ones they've been reading.

These books will help my class start the year off with a jump start!

The books are linked to our English Language Arts and Science curriculum. Students will read together at the Listening Center. These book will not be available without your support.
