First Grade Makerspace Magic

My students need a Dash robot, Osmo, and construction materials to set up a classroom makerspace!

My Students

My first grade students are eager to explore the world around them and try new things. Each day they amaze me with their ideas, insights, and new ways of looking at things. I try as best I can to create opportunities for them to explore, create, and collaborate as learners.

We are continuously exploring new topics and approaches to learning as a class.

They understand that everyone learns at their own pace and needs different supports to be successful. This understanding has helped to transform our classroom into a community of eager learners.

My Project

The addition of construction materials like Legos will provide them with a new way to express their creativity and work together to create something. Osmo is a resource that can bridge the gap between technology and hands-on manipulatives, and the Dash robot will introduce them to robotics and programming.

This project will give my students the opportunity to create, collaborate with peers, and learn about coding.

Collaboration and critical thinking are important skills for learners of all ages and can begin even in the early grades.

I hope to present authentic opportunities for my students to be thinkers and problems solvers to develop a love of learning and willingness to try new things.
