This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Transitioning eager kindergartners who will be first graders in the fall who are eager to learn. The school is 100% economically disadvantaged and most of our students rely on meals, snacks and school supplies that they receive while at school.
Most of my students face challenging obstacles that they bring to school with them, varying from homelessness, no adult supervision after school, taking on responsibilities of younger siblings and parents that can give little or no support academically.
Due to the world wide pandemic receiving these resources have been extremely difficult for my students. These challenges can hinder a child's ability to focus in person on their academics.
My Project
Many of our students were online during the pandemic and were not able to experience the classroom setting limiting them to some of the basic foundations needed as an early learner. Please help bring first grade back to face to face instruction with resources for learning engagement. The dry erase markers will allow my students to work independently using their desk as a personal white board. The pencil grips will assist students in practicing their fine motor skills and handwriting. The healthy snacks provided will give my students who are at an 100% economic disadvantage who receive free lunch exposure to healthier snack options that they would not be able to receive at home. The ink will allow me to print classroom workstations, assignments and weekly communications. The math and science big books will bring literacy to math and science. My first graders will love discovering math and science through stories to help build their comprehension. The supplies will allow the transition into in person learning environment a success!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
