My Project
This is a new year and a new beginning for my students and me! Both my first graders and I will be in for a new adventure!
Starting the year off in a new classroom, on a new floor means we need new materials to encourage a smooth and welcoming transition from Kindergarten to first grade!
I have always used sticky name tags for my student's tables but because they are older and in first grade now, I want to give them a more mature way of identifying who they are as well as their own workspace, just like they would have if they were working in a corporate office and had a nameplate on their desk!
I also want to provide them with a way to earn special rewards or bonuses by using the behavior punch cards. They can earn lunch with the teacher, free choice, no homework, or a trip to the treasure box. Again, I am trying to connect the classroom with the real world: work hard not only do you earn respect but most times you are rewarded in some fashion.
My other two items: the dry erase sticky notes and the centers' chart encourages them to take responsibility and encourage their independence by using them as they would if they had a job: one as a schedule and one for reminders.
