This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
By the end of the school year, I want my students to become proficient readers and writers. As a special educator, I know that my students need visual, hands-on and tactile learning resources to help them reach their goals. These iPads will greatly improve student engagement and interest in literacy.
I work in a Title I school in Manhattan with limited funds.
My students are first graders who are curious, inquisitive, kind and energetic. However, my students have a variety of needs. My students struggle with expressive, receptive language and decoding skills. Some of my students have behavioral disorders and work best through engaging activities such as through the use of iPads (visual and tactile resources).
My Project
My students will be able to use these iPads in order to improve their literacy and math skills. iPads will allow for more student engagement in the classroom. I will be able to use more station teaching in my classroom. Station teaching is when my students will be put into groups and rotate around the room learning and participating in activities in a smaller group setting. One of my stations will be learning through iPads. The use of iPads will allow for more independence. In addition, my students' self confidence will be enhanced because they will be practicing concepts and skills on their own.
Many of my students do not have access to technology.
These iPads will enable my students to become global citizens. My students will be able to improve their reading, writing and math skills.
