My Students

As we get ready to start the new school year, we are missing some very important materials! These are not fun extras, they are absolutely necessary for daily life in First Grade.

My First Graders come from diverse backgrounds.

They live in a very low income neighborhood in New York. In our class, we love to read, write, draw, and make projects. We have fun and we learn at the same time! The First Graders absolutely love to practice writing their spelling words with dry-erase markers on little white boards.

My Project

Unfortunately, we are down to 8 dry erase markers that work. That is not enough for a whole class of students! We have many amazing multidisciplinary projects planned, but this year we didn't receive any new glue sticks! Last year's glue sticks were dried up so we had to throw them out. With no glue, what will hold our work together?

Right now we don't have First-Grader sized pencils, so the children are either using giant Kindergarten pencils (of which we have a limited supply) or regular adult sized pencils, which are not developmentally appropriate for the hands of a six-year old.

We need these just-right pencils! Thank you for helping us!
