My Students
My 24 first grade students love to read. In first grade we establish the foundation for reading and see students grow from non-readers to readers. Students light up when they finish their first book. Through independent reading, whole group book studies and small group instruction, I work to help students develop a love for books and a passion for reading. Having high quality reading materials available in our classroom is an essential part of guiding students as they grow into readers.
My Project
My first grade students love books, and get even more excited about learning to read when we have books available and easily accessible in our classroom. Book studies using informational text like the Community Helper and Symbols of America reading sets asked for through this project help my students understand the world around them. Using these books during small group instruction will expand student vocabulary and expose them to informational text features making them stronger readers. The picture books asked for through this project will be used for independent reading and read alouds. These books engage students in reading, and help strengthen reading comprehension skills with colorful illustration and relatable stories.
