My Project
We teach a group of amazing, curious, and hardworking general and special education students in first grade. About sixty percent of our students have a range of disabilities, some of which include learning disabilities, physical disabilities, emotional disturbances, speech and language impairments, and autism spectrum disorder. Like any other class, our students' abilities and interests range across a wide spectrum. All of our students require individual or small group attention. Each day, we incorporate all of their learning styles, interests, and special education accommodations into our lessons. Some of our students prefer visual or auditory cues for learning, while some require a more kinesthetic or tactile approach. Our students come into our classroom each day with a love of school and a desire to grow as a learner.
One of our favorite things about our students is how kindhearted they are; they are always going the extra mile to make others feel cared for.
In conversations surrounding the New Year, we have been talking about resolutions and how we can help others. As a class, we had the idea to create care packages for students in our school. For these care packages, we will include a variety of products that will make others feel better if they are down. Some of these products include: fidget toys, PlayDoh, snacks, wobble seats, markers, and pencils. It's our hope that creating these care packages will help others, as well as teach us the importance of caring for other people.
