This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

First graders love art! It would be wonderful to provide them with art supplies. I would for them to have colored pencils, crayons, markers, drawing paper and dough to unleash their creative side.

My students attend school in a high poverty area in NY.

We are near a shelter. Therefore, many students live in shelters. My first graders love school and school is their home. My goal is to provide them with a nurturing, learning environment. They love to draw,color and create artwork.

My Project

Throughout the year, we create art projects based on our learning units. We study the Neighborhood, Life Cycles, and many animals. After they write about a topic, they have the opportunity to illustrate their work. These art supplies will enable them to color their artwork with markers and colored pencils. This motivates them to write and be creative. They will use the art paper to create a 3D neighborhood and make animal puppets.

It is so important to support the arts in classrooms.

As a teacher for fourteen years, I know how much students love to create art and having art supplies in my first grade classroom would be a great learning experience. I have seen students really thrive by creating art work.
