This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in an urban area and they are aiming to be first generation college students. My class is designed to help them get there, through the research stage, planning for their futures, applying to college and for financial aid, completing scholarships, and polishing college essays. My students are highly motivated to attend college and work extremely hard, supporting each other, through the whole process.
My students are driven towards college success and have been working relentlessly to get there.
My class is a two-year path designed to help them get there, but sometimes we lack the resources that they need to get the day-to-day tasks done that the college process requires.
My Project
We oftentimes do not have enough access to the Internet with the devices my school has to get all the tasks done that are required as part of the college admissions process. So much of the process requires that students use the Internet to research colleges, complete applications to institutions and scholarships, and complete the financial aid process. Having these Chromebooks would make a world of difference for my students as they navigate this process together in my class. We would be much more able to check the status of applications as needed and be responsive to all the ins and outs of the college process.
