Help me give my students the best booking tasting and book club ever by providing them with a variety of books that will help to expose them to the love of reading for enjoyment.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In the upcoming 2019 - 2020 school year, our school will have it's first ever book club. This book club will be open to students in grades four and five. The students will be accepted into the book club based on their love for reading, and their willingness to participate in open discussions regarding the readings. Students that may have difficult with reading and are not doing well academically in reading will be encouraged to join so long as they have the desire to read.
The children that have expressed interest in a book club are excited and hopefully that we will be able to begin immediately at the start of the next school year.
They look forward to being able to read and discuss books with their peers.
My Project
The students will learn of the many elements needed to compose a good book and learn vocabulary, comprehension and fluency. The students will be able to determine how characters act and feel. They will be able to make connections to real life . They will identify problems and solutions and the steps to reach the solutions. The books will allow opportunities to have peer to peer conversations that are evidenced based.
The students will be able to choose their own books for the month, lead group discussions, compare one book to another or to movies and verbalize their predictions and their opinions in a comfortable student oriented environment.
They will discover different worlds and cultures as well as explore familiar topics that they themselves might be going through.
