This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students enjoy listening to stories and reading whenever they can. The major challenge that we are facing this year is improving their literacy skills to and above their appropriate grade level. In this day of technology, I would like to infuse literacy and technology to help my students.
I have a maximum class size of 33 students in an urban city.
My students are of mixed demographics, and mixed academic abilities including special education and English Language Learners who are full of life and love. Although they are inner city children, they value their education and are always looking for ways to improve themselves. My school is not just a building but a small community of learners. Each teacher knows most, if not all of the students attending. We do things as a family by appreciating the arts and history; delving into current social issues and learning to become student leaders, and experiencing life along with each student. I desire to give my students an edge in this academic world by exposing them to all that I can by being a creative, optimistic, and self-evaluating educator.
My Project
Imagine a class of 33 sixth-grade students, some who are collaboratively working in groups on their academics, and others that are working individually. This is my typical classroom where students are learning with me and with their peers. Some students may go off into my mini classroom library by reading chapter books; while others, if funded will be using Kindle Fires to read. They will be reading e-books that we both choose and using educational apps that foster their educational growth.
The Kindle Fires will help those students who are academically struggling by allowing them to read lower level books or pictures books and also keep those students who are reading on level engaged. The students who are English Language Learners can use apps to help improve their literacy as well. With the two Kindle Fires, I can rotate students so that everyone will be able to use the devices and improvement in their literacy skills will follow.
Your donation to this project will keep my classroom engaging.
Students will be excited to come to school for an opportunity to read a book on the Kindle Fire and also use the educational apps. Our goal is for each student to improve in their literacy skills and keep them engaged in reading. Receiving the Kindle Fire gives us an edge and we are reading and willing to grow!
