This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is an inclusion classroom, with students with special needs, ranging from severe to moderate learning disabilities and autistic students. The students in my class read below grade level and many struggle with basic phonics and number sense. They are constantly moving and have difficulty focusing, making learning difficult. Despite these challenges, I try to make their learning experience creative and stress free. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among my students. Many of them do not have access to technology at home that would help them to bridge that gap. They love to read and love lots of positive attention. Many of them receive free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on all the positive things that they bring to my class, making their experience during the day a positive one. I am hopeful to inspire my students to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
Having 4 Fire HD tablets as a resource in our classroom would allow me to download enrichment apps that students would be able to use in small groups, learning centers, and as an intervention for their special need students need engaging activities that focus on the alphabet, letter recognition, and writing, as well as math activities to explore during Learning Center time.
They will be able to use the tablets during our Center time and small group time, learning letters and sounds as they make words, numbers, and sets as we explore counting skills.
Your generous donation to our project will improve our First Grade classroom by building a stronger reader, writer and mathematician. This will change our students' lives for the better. They will love school and feel success at an early age --- having fun while learning!
