There are many changes facing education today! First and foremost changes to our adopted curriculum requires students to be technologically savvy. My classroom needs a technology overhaul!
My class is a group of wonderful students who are always eager to learn.
They strive daily to do their very best, regardless of their learning levels. But they can be disheartened if they cannot complete an assignment because they do not have the needed technology. They are willing to share, however assignment completions are delayed because they have to wait to use the computers in our lab. Unfortunately, we only have access to the Computer Lab one time each week.
My students know how to use technology. They use it at home and come to school wanting more.
My Project
A set of Kindle Fire tablets will be a valuable resource in my classroom. First and foremost, students will be able to read books on the Kindle. Even my most reluctant readers will want to pick up a Kindle and read. This will help me expand the joy of reading to many more students each year. In addition, students will be able to access the Internet to do research on curriculum-related topics. This will allow us to continue with our learning outside of our allotted Computer Lab time.
Finally, there are also many apps that can be loaded on the Kindle to help differentiate instruction to match the students' abilities. Some students will use the Kindle as a reward for completing assignments, while others will use the Kindle to help them understand a concept that we are studying.
This is just the beginning! I believe that there will be many more applications for these tablets that I will discover once they are in the classroom.
A set of Kindle Fire tablets will enhance my class this year and will also continue to benefit my future students as well.
It is vitally important to get technology into the hands of as many students as possible. This project is a start to my classroom technology overhaul. My students will be able to use this up-to-date technology immediately.
