Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
At Desert Mirage, our First Grade classes have a wide mixture of ability levels. Our goal at the end of the school year is to have each and every student meeting or exceeding their individual goals. To help achieve these goals we focus on reading, writing, and math.
At Desert Mirage in First Grade we believe that teamwork makes the dream work.
That means that students and faculty collaborate to meet academic and social goals. Our students all come from diverse backgrounds. 71% of our students receive free or reduced lunches. We have students who are coming from multiple family households. Due to these factors many of our students lack the access to technology. The only technology the students currently have available in their classroom for their independent use is one 8 year old computer. Our first graders are caring and curious but crave multiple learning outlets.
My Project
We are requesting 6 Amazon Kindle Fire tablets to share among 3 first grade classrooms. The students will use the tablets for research purposes, fluency practice, and basic math skills. We will equip the tablets with educational apps to help meet our students' individual and first grade goals. Students will also have access to educational websites such as MobyMax, sumdog, Tenmarks, and xtramath. The tablets will be used individually and in small groups. The tablets will be used throughout the day during writing, reading, and math.
Upon completion of our project, our first graders will see that others care about their education.
The students will have access to new materials to further their learning. The students will be more engaged and will have more success in meeting their goals. The tablets will also help satisfy our student's curiosity.
