My Students

Albert Einstein quotes, "The mind that opens to a new idea never returns to its original size." Therefore, my goal is to provide my diverse learners with meaningful projects and instructional resources to address the disabilities that impede their learning such as attention-deficit, dyslexia, social-emotional, and autism. Their past experiences of failure in school have outweighed their successes as they also deal with socioeconomic ills within their communities, making the burden to learn more difficult.

Nevertheless, in spite of their circumstances, my students are inquisitive, creative, hopeful and eager to come to school- their safe haven; therefore, they know that their teacher holds their minds dear to her heart and will continue to discover innovative ways to challenge them to think and learn!

Aligning each student to the appropriate instructional resources, my students can grasp concepts through a combination of visual stimuli and usage of hands-on materials as well as respond to intervention through interactive, arts-infused, project-based, hands-on learning activities. With time and investment in exploring how they learn, my students will leave my classroom with a newfound growth mindset!

My Project

My students are diverse learners who struggle with foundational reading skills. They enjoy words with vivid images and characters that provide humor.

"Toon" books were selected to target the reading deficits of my students (reluctant readers) as well as address their learning needs while actively engaging them in the reading process!

What I love most is that car"toon" books combines comics with a rigorous curriculum that supports students' language arts skills in reading, listening, speaking and fluency. For my students who are visual learners, they will be able to read images to comprehend the essence of the story while learning to grasp knowledge of phonics and sight words.

This collection also emphasizes the development of students’ verbal and visual literacy skills through a series of comics that will be used to read to whole class & teach language development through small group instruction.

As a bonus, the Prize-Winning TOON Books Collection for Grades K-2 comes with a Guide to Comics for Every Student! Included in this project are titles, that will peak the interest of my students:

Zig and Wikki in Something Ate My Homework, Silly Lilly in What Will I Be Today?, Hearts, Ape & Armadillo Take Over The World, Written and Drawn by Henrietta, A Day In The Office Of Doctor and Adopt a Glurp.

Research has shown that the lack of exposure & resources are among the disparities of the achievement gap, especially among students with academic deficits. The goal is for my to walk away towards the pipeline of academic success and enhanced confidence in their reading skills. Thank you for your generosity and kindness.
