My Students
I work as an occupational therapist at a Title 1 school in Brooklyn. Many of my students are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. Our classes serve students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities. The typical students that I service have difficulties with writing, manipulating snaps, buttons, and zippers. They have difficulty navigating the school environment without assistance. Despite having these difficulties they still enjoy coming to school.
My Project
I work with the most amazing students through Occupational Therapy who need materials to practice their fine motor skills. Materials like pop beads, play-doh, sticker mosaics, a peg board and other visual fine motor skill materials to help them throughout the school year. Developing their fine motor skills now will help them in their writing in class. Learning fine motor skills will help them to be successful and strong throughout their educational careers. Please help my students receive these materials so they can practice fine motor skills with great materials. I want them to feel successful and proud of themselves.
