Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I will be teaching dual language Kindergarten. My students are a mixture of native English speaking students and native Spanish speaking students. The majority of students in our school are of Hispanic heritage.

Many of my students come from households with limited resources at home such as technology and books.

This is why I allow students to borrow items from my classroom whenever needed. This year will be a challenging year with the restrictions in allowing students to share items. In addition, we need to keep them six feet apart. This is why I am trying to acquire individual resources that will engage my students in their learning since they will not be able to work with their peers.

My Project

Students in Kindergarten need to work on their fine motor skills in order to strengthen their muscles. This will help students manage their pencil grip and allow them to write and draw more proficiently. The jumbo tweezers and pom poms are materials that will help students work on their fine motor skills along with activities based on the curriculum. It is a fun way of creating an activity for counting in math, sorting by color, sorting by shape, or by size.

Kinetic sand can be used for multiple purposes in a Kindergarten classroom as well.

I have used this in the past for students with high anxiety and considering how different the classroom is going to look like this year, this can help calm students or give them a break from their work when needed.
