My Students

I teach at a Developmental Pre-K program at Title I school. Our developmental program consists of 20 children ages 3-5 with developmental delays such as cognitive, social-emotional, fine motor, and communication disorders. PLAY influences growth in all of these critical areas. Allowing children to play encourages students to gain these essential skills. My students are ready to learn through hands-on experiences. This is the best way that Pre-K aged students learn. They have a strong interest in science, math, literacy, and gross motor activities. I am currently in need of more tools to support them with their pre-writing skills.

Play in the early childhood setting is a highly effective way to teach students with disabilities essential pre-academic skills.

It’s through play that children make sense of things, from their own physical bodies to the rest of the world around them.

My Project

Help me give my students the tools they need to improve their fine motor skills. Research shows that hands-on exploration is the best way for young children to learn. Our program prioritizes open exploration and play based learning so these manipulatives are key to teaching essential skills. The snap rockets not only will help my students strengthen their hand grip they will also teach them the letter of the alphabet as they match words that start with the given letter. The alphabet hole punch kit will also be engaging, and fun, as they learn and grow. The manipulatives that I have selected meet our curriculum guidelines, Nevada Pre-K standards, and Nevada Kindergarten standards.

Play in the early childhood setting is a highly effective way to teach students with disabilities essential pre-academic skills.

You have the opportunity to help create life-long learners and you would be helping us achieve our school improvement plan! My students probably will not realize the magnitude of your generous gift, but I can assure you their parents do.
