Who wants to gather together as a class and have to sit on the hard ground?? A nice, soft carpet is just what our 2nd grade bottoms need!
My students come from many different types of family backgrounds.
A lot of their families are young and just starting out. My school is in a newer area, and it opened in 2006. We are still in need of a lot of school furniture and supplies.
My Project
Having a carpet in my classroom will, significantly, help me in my class management. We do a lot of things together as a class. I always call my students to sit down on the floor in front of a small whiteboard I have set up in front of my calendar. If I have a carpet with designated colored squares, I will assign each square to a student so everyone knows exactly where to sit when they come down to the carpet. This will keep everything and everyone organized and help me to prevent any behavior problems; with these things taken care of my students and I will be able to spend more of our time and focus on the mini lessons I do down on the carpet.

I am a new, first year teacher with very limited resources as I start out my career.
