Help me give my students two updated computers to do basic research and browse the library catalog for books they want when they go to the historic Robert F. Kennedy Library!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Books and research via technology are mirrors and windows for 6th-12th grade students at our school! Literature and media allow students to connect to their own identities and interests that affirm the powerful and beautiful people they are (mirrors!). Written information also allows students to discover entirely new people and topics they can learn from (windows!). Currently when students come to our school library, they can ask the librarian to help find resources or they can use 1 computer that is from 2010 to do on the spot research or look for a book from the Library's catalog. That computer is as slow as a snail.......
These 2 brand new iMac computers will increase students' access, independence, and efficacy in finding the specific books and research they want when they are in our school library!
With access to these two speedy computers, students could even change their mind about a topic as they encounter new information, shift in the moment what to search for on a digital databse, and still have time to find the resources they need in a single 45 minute class period!
The Paul Schrade Library at the Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools in Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) services 5 High Schools and 3 Middle Schools, for a total of about 4,000 students on the RFK campus.
