This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Since we cannot change reality, let us change the eyes which see reality."- Kazantzakis
Our students have a gift for seeing the world in new and unique ways. They attend school in the poorest congressional district in the United States and can still see the beauty that surrounds us all.
We are a campus library that serves three unique schools in New York.
Our school library serves Title I schools with over 80% of the student population qualifying for free and reduced price lunch. Our students are inquisitive and eager 6th-12th graders that come from a community that has severe socio-economic challenges.
My Project
We look forward to providing our students with cameras to document and capture the beauty that surrounds them in and outside of school. We plan to display and exhibit their work as well as use them as talking points for discussion and analysis. We see our students using the cameras to capture the essence of their neighborhoods and families.
We also see it as a great tool to use on field trips to local colleges to help them begin to envision an academic future beyond the confines of their neighborhoods.
Everyday our students come to school ready to learn and excited about the process.
We look forward to giving them the tools they need help express themselves and their vision of the world.
We believe that these cameras will help them gain focus on what is within their grasps and what is still out their to be attained.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
