This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Teaching in a low-income/high-poverty school/community, I see how my students are faced with daily challenges. These challenges include poverty, poor health, and parents who may be unable to afford resources such as books, computers, or even family weekend activities that would create positive learning experiences for them.
My students love to read, create and learn.
I teach a first-grade class formed with 14 girls and 10 boys whose parents may not have the financial resources or time available to provide them with the skills and material needed to prepare them for the careers of the future.
My Project
It is uncertain whether schools will be close for two weeks, a month — or, some worry, until the school year ends in June due to COVID-19. I want to be able to keep providing my students instruction and a sense of normalcy. This set of books that highlight heroes like Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks, Jim Henson, Amelia Earhart, Muhammad Ali…and others, each one an ordinary person who was able to achieve the extraordinary would be extremely helpful to bring my students inspiration and hope. With these set of books I can continue reading aloud to my students either through a livestream or a pre-recorded video where I can go over literacy skills, as well as life skills.
Each person in these set of books is an example of the spectacular potential that can be found in all of us.
Giving my students the inspiration and motivation they need right now to continue learning and exploring.
