Help me give my students a flexible desk to serve as our peace corner. My students need a table in order to collect their thoughts and feel their emotions safely and privately.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I am a bilingual special education teacher in a dual language school. My fourth grade students are fun, full of energy, and very social. They enjoy sharing their thoughts on any topic, although they may not always know how to express themselves positively. They are building friendships and also need support maintaining those friendships. Some students receive speech and language therapy which can serve as a barrier while socializing. This is why my students will need a space where they can organize their ideas and feel their feelings and talk to a friend and work things out. Fourth grade can be hard. They are older, but not old enough and more importantly, they need a warm environment to feel welcome and that they do belong.
In other words, the main goal for this project is for students to have a designated table in the classroom where they can take a moment to regulate their emotions privately, and have the opportunity to select a tool or strategy that may work for them to support them to calm down if needed, take care of themselves, and their big feelings or a friends.
The table will also provide the space to organize sensory items or tools students will use.
The basket will organize some of these tools such as the Gel Filled Squishy Stress Toys. These sensory toys are a great calming tool against frustration, and can support with focus while squeezing the colorful gel along the track of the maze’. Additionally, the Finger Labyrinth “helps children relax, feel better when they are sad or scared, and help them to concentrate”.
