Finding Balance: Sensory Regulation Tools for Calm and Comfort
Help me give my students the critical resources that will help them manage their sensory regulation needs. When sensory needs aren’t addressed, students may exhibit behaviors like fidgeting, difficulty staying seated, emotional outbursts, or even physical self-regulation challenges.

My Project
For students with ADHD and Autism, sensory regulation difficulties are a significant barrier to learning, emotional well-being, and safety—both at school and at home. One of the most crucial, yet often overlooked, sensory needs these students experience is proprioception.
Proprioception is the sense of body awareness—essentially, the ability to know where your body is in space.
For children with ADHD and Autism, the brain struggles to process sensory input effectively, leading them to seek out activities that provide deep pressure, heavy work, or intense sensory stimulation. Without these sensory inputs, they may feel overwhelmed, anxious, or even unsafe in their environments. And when their sensory needs aren’t met, it becomes even harder to focus, engage, and learn.
For students with ADHD and Autism, proper sensory regulation is not just a nice-to-have—it’s essential for their ability to function in everyday activities. These children often struggle with:
Staying calm and focused during class.
Managing their emotions in overwhelming environments.
Avoiding injury during physical activities or transitions.
Navigating social situations due to heightened stress responses.
With these tools in place, students will be able to focus better, feel safer, and engage more meaningfully in their learning environments. Over time, this will lead to improved academic performance, better emotional regulation, and greater overall well-being for these children.
