My Students
Are you afraid of singing in front of others? This is something that scares many of us from a young age. To help my students become more comfortable, I introduce puppets. Students suddenly feel more comfortable singing when a small friend is near.
I'm fortunate to teach over 600 amazing students on a daily basis.
We are a school district made up of 8 smaller communities, each bringing their own unique talents and abilities to our schools. Our motto is "Joined as One, We Get the Job Done." This is truly a motivator for all of our students, staff and families. We strive for the best for our students in and out of the classroom. Music gives students an outlet to express themselves in different ways, as well as create and discover things that capture their attention. I love seeing their smiles when they make a musical discovery or try something new in my classroom.
My Project
Puppets are a game changer in music class. I have a few already and the students are already asked questions about them. They love using them with singing games and small assessments, but there aren't enough for every student to use. These puppets bring much more variety to my classroom, allowing different students to connect with whichever puppet they feel more comfortable with. This provides a friend for them to sing to and for in the classroom. Eventually, the students will be able to sing along with other puppets and friends, creating songs and spoken dialog during centers or large group activities. These steps increase a student's ability to hopefully sing out on their own in time. Many of my older students still ask about the puppets and want to use them from time to time. After all, who doesn't want a small friend around when you're nervous from time to time?
Many of my students love singing out, but this will take it to the next level.
It will allow all students to connect with a "singing friend" and encourage them to be more confident with their voice alone, as well as with others. A great foundation leads to wonderful singing in the future, and I can't wait to hear all of my student's singing voices loud and clear.
