This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are very young children with special needs, most of whom have speech delays and/or autism. They are the most lovable bunch of sweethearts trying their best to communicate their thoughts and ideas. I strive to provide a social skills-based preschool program that is saturated with language opportunities whenever and wherever possible. Through the use of play, and modeling appropriate language, encouraging children to use their words, and practicing social skills, the children in my class can learn about themselves and the world around them.
My Project
I recently had to remove our classroom calming corner seating that my students used to get comfortable while reading a book and exploring puzzles. Due to the old furniture being made of cloth and not being fire retardant vinyl, we had to throw away a child-sized couch and pillow. These chairs are indeed fire-retardant and will provide my students with the comfort needed to calm their busy little bodies in a safe, quiet area. I hope to find my students enjoying a new or favorite book and exploring a challenging puzzle while using these chairs so that our classroom can be complete.
