This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My bilingual kindergarten students are full of curiosity and enthusiasm for learning. They come from diverse cultural backgrounds, including many who are native Spanish speakers. Their eagerness to learn both English and Spanish is remarkable, and I want to provide them with the tools to succeed not only in language acquisition but also in life skills like financial literacy. This project aims to develop early writing skills alongside foundational financial concepts, which are vital for their future success.

In our classroom, we strive to foster not just bilingualism but also real-world skills.

Through this project, I want to introduce financial literacy concepts such as saving, spending, and sharing, while enhancing students' writing abilities in both English and Spanish. By combining literacy and financial education, my goal is to give students a solid foundation in both languages and life skills that they can carry into their future.

To accomplish this, I need resources that make these abstract ideas tangible for 5-year-olds. Hands-on activities, visual aids, and interactive games will help them grasp these important concepts in a bilingual environment. Additionally, strengthening their writing skills in both languages will help them express their understanding and ideas clearly.

The bilingual kindergarteners I teach come from a rich mix of cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Many of them are English Language Learners (ELLs), and Spanish is spoken at home by a majority of their families. Our school embraces a bilingual model, and my students work hard to learn reading, writing, and speaking in both English and Spanish. They are bright, resilient, and full of potential, and I want to provide them with tools that cater to their unique needs.
