My Project

My grade 4 scholars are a fantastic bunch of thoughtful, caring 10-11-year-old boys and girls who cautiously entered my classroom in September 2024. This was their first experience with having two core teachers. In September 2024, we became departmentalized. I am assigned Math and Science. My teammate has been assigned to all aspects of literacy. We have made it through almost half of our academic year together, and I would like to add lessons on Financial Literacy to their time with me.

My thoughts and reason to add Financial Literacy as an incentive and reward to their academic time with me is because many of them still don't really see the NEED for mathematics as a grade 4 student, my goal is to SHOW THEM the need for math, especially when it comes to being ACCURATE in their responses.

These resources including Creative Teaching Press, Financial Literacy for Kids, 6 Books, Evan-Moor Financial Literacy, Grade 4 - Kids, Priceless Facts About Money and Evan-Moor Financial Literacy Lessons and Activities, will be used during small group instruction as well as a resource for independent curiosity.

This method of using Financial Literacy instruction as a reward will be a win-win. I feel that by using Financial Literacy as an incentive for accuracy, my students will be getting the best of both worlds since many of them show an already peaked interest when I incorporate money into our math lessons.
