This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students come from diverse backgrounds and face various challenges, including limited access to financial literacy education. They strive with hands-on, practical learning experiences which we implement using ClassBank, an interactive tool that allows students to earn, save, and spend money in a simulated classroom economy.

This project will not only teach students about the value of money but also instill life-long financial skills such as budgeting, saving, and making informed spending choices.

With ClassBank, we will create a classroom economy where students earn "classroom money" for completing tasks, demonstrating positive behavior, and achieving academic goals. Students will then manage their earnings by making decisions about saving, budgeting, and spending their classroom currency in a classroom store. The store will be stocked with fun items such as school supplies, fidget toys, educational games, and even “experience-based” rewards like lunch with the teacher or other special privileges. Students will be encouraged to save their earnings for larger rewards while also having the option to spend their money on smaller, everyday items in the classroom store. This teaches the balance between instant gratification and long-term planning while also teaching students to make informed choices about how they spend their money.
