Financial Literacy Starts Now!

My students need math journals, counting money puzzles, and a math money problem solving kit for increasing Financial Literacy!

FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Williams's classroom raised $254

My Students

According to a CNBC report financial literacy is a portion of education should not be overlooked. It's book fair time! You're excited to buy books, posters, and pencils. You get to the cashier, you hand her $1, all you hear is, "sweetie, you don't enough money." Your confused, why not?

My students come from economically disadvantaged homes where there are limited resources for learning.

Unfortunately, many have adult family members who do not understand how to manage and count money. In addition to this they have a classroom where supplies and resources are also limited. I want to change the learning environment for my students by providing them with high quality hands on materials. Currently our classroom has many materials that are outdated and do not relate to real world situations. Since, I am new to my current school many items were not properly stored and unfortunately we don't have the financial resources to replenish many of the items needed to teach my busy 2nd graders.

My Project

During intervention and math workshop I will be able to use these resources to help support students at a variety of learning levels. Students will build financial literacy through hands on practice of real world problems, counting coins using a self checking puzzle, and use math journals to support spiral review.

These materials will greatly impact student learning and success.

Students will have proper materials to solve the types of real-world math problems they’ll encounter every day, have their own space to solve problems and explain their mathematical thinking, and complete skill-building practice at a different levels. Becoming literate financially will eliminate future embarrassment of not understanding the concept of how money works in the real world and prepare them for a brighter future.
