Financial Literacy: Math in the Real World

My Students

This is my fifth year in this wonderfully rewarding profession, and I am beyond excited to continue teaching fifth grade math and science.

My students are so dedicated to their learning and education.

My students deserve anything and everything that will continue to inspire them. Their passion for mathematical conceptual understanding is unmatched! They are constantly challenging themselves through questioning. Their interest in science exploded the first few months of the year. They loved learning about the seasons, Earth's tilt, and the sun. It led to space exploration and students inspiring one another to dig deeper the universe.

My students are funny, understand my sense of humor, and most days are spent laughing and smiling while learning, taking brain breaks, and socializing. They are working on improving positive social interactions. We came so far this year.

My Project

A huge commitment I made to math skills is applicability in the real world. I want to ensure student's understand how prevalent and important mathematical thinking is outside of the classroom! By incorporating money skills daily, I will be able to foster stronger connections between math, place value, fractions, number patterns, and so much more.

By using financial literacy skills, our class will apply our 5th grade math skills to real life situations involving money, finance, investment, budgeting, and more all while working collaboratively with peers!

Money is an extremely applicable and important skill related to success as a student and person! I want to ensure I provide a well-rounded education to all of my students.
