This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My seniors are eager to jump into a career after high school. We spend our time working on resumes, job search techniques, and real world financial literacy activities to help them navigate "adulting". These lessons are interesting but it's also hard work and I want to make these lessons even more real for them.
Having a variety of gift cards as incentives for their hard work would help motivate my students even more as we get closer to the end of the school year.
We are already working on budgeting and figuring out interest rates and credit cards. We will be moving on to taxes and understanding just where our paychecks actually disappear to (might as well give them a hard dose of reality now!) and I believe they should be able to work towards real financial rewards. That's where the gift cards come in. This is the perfect experiential learning situation and what better way to learn about saving and budgeting money than to be able to "purchase" their rewards with hard-earned class money? Financial literacy and fun all rolled into one!
