This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love listening to math stories but unfortunately we have no large math books.

I currently teach 32 very sweet and energetic first graders in a Title 1 school located in a high poverty and high crime area of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

All of my students receive free breakfast and free lunch. Many of my students come from homes where English is not spoken. I have 8 ESL (English as a Second Language) students in my classroom.

My Project

I am hoping to get math books such as Caps for Sale, Curious George Learns to Count and The Doorbell Rang in order to get my first graders excited about Financial Literacy. We currently have no large math books to read during our Classroom Read Aloud Time. I am also hoping to get foam dice so that my 32 six and seven year olds can improve their adding skills in a fun and quiet way.

The large math books will make a big difference in helping my first graders improve their math and reading skills at the same time.
