My students need a lot of love, care, and support from teachers. Our school is in a poverty-stricken area, where many students do not have the necessary supplies or tools they need to succeed. Building a warm, safe, inviting classroom community and environment is so important for my students.
My students are kind, caring, and ready to learn.
They are continuing to learn how to best communicate with friends and prevent bullying in our classroom. Classroom community is still something we are continuing to build throughout the year, not just in our class, but school-wide. We also strive to provide differentiated, culturally-responsive instruction and need more resources to do that.
My Project
First grade is the first grade level where students really begin to learn about money. Since I am new to first grade, I do not have all of the necessary supplies to help students learn about money.
We are changing to Next Generation standards in the next year, where my first graders will be learning through play, meaning that I need many different games and manipulatives to help support their financial literacy learning.
The money games and flash cards would help us in small groups learn more about the value of coins, the manipulative station would help students play with money and other counters to count the value of money in word problems, and the activity center would also help support financial literacy in small groups. Please help our young learners learn more about the value and importance of financial literacy!
I hope to receive support from DonorsChoose.org in order to help my students get necessary supplies, create a sense of community, safety, and comfort in my classroom, as well as help my students create long-lasting memories to help them connect positively to school. I appreciate your support in helping my students get what they need to learn and grow.
