Financial Literacy Classroom Store!

Help me give my students 120 assorted toys, slap bracelets, pencils, counters, mini chalkboards, playdough, putty, slime, toy binoculars, magnifying glasses and assorted toy box for prizes for our classroom store.

My Students

I teach first grade at a large urban school district. Our school is a high-needs status school with over ninety percent of our students qualifying for free or reduced-price lunches.

Most of my students are English Language Learners from low-income homes.

My students are wonderful. My students are excited about learning and love school. I want my students to learn to their fullest potential. Having a classroom store where students can buy items will help teach them counting and adding skills as well as keep them excited about learning.

My Project

This financially literacy project will teach my students to be financially responsible. It will teach counting and adding skills as well as good behavior skills. I already have a behavior program in place for my students. I use a color card system. If students do well all day they receive a "Dino Dollar." They will also receive a "Dino Dollar" randomly when they are being caught showing teamwork or staying on task. At the end of the week they can use their "dollars" to buy items in our class store.

The items such as the stress balls, putty, slime and the other prizes I am requesting are for our classroom store.

When my students get their "Dino Dollars" each day, they need to be responsible for keeping them to use for the class store each Friday. This will teach them about financial literacy because they will have to decide what item they can buy with their dollars. Different items cost different amounts. They will use their counting and math skills to buy or save for items in the store.
