Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students generally come from low-income families that live around the school neighborhood located in the Southeast area of San Diego. Most of my students are African American and Latino, followed by students from the Pacific Islands or Asian backgrounds.

Our school is a unique place.

The school has a great percentage of students with special needs; therefore, our school needs to be equipped with technological devices, lab tools and materials, and other resources that will guarantee that all students have what they need to learn and succeed adequately.

My Project

Students will play financial literacy and STEM inspired board games in order to enhance their academic learning in class. One student suggested board games as a fun way of learning science and mathematical skills involved in property management and banking . Therefore, I looked into several board games that students could play in the classroom.

For instance, games like Ocean-Opoly and Tesla vs Edison, would not only teach students about marine species and scientific inventions respectively, but also several aspects of financial literacy.

Both games address the concepts of having different assets, as well as investment and the rules of products, marketing and ownership.
