My students come from a diverse array of cultural, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds. They are pregnant or parenting teens who want to finish their education and learn how to be wonderful parents.
I want my students to gather the skills and resources necessary to be successful as a parent, a student as well as an active member of our community.
Teens with adult responsibilities need support and understanding to have success in school. We offer a calm atmosphere where the student can bring their child and learn the skills to be job market-ready or be prepared to further their education.
A parenting teen does not understand how their schedule will change and they need a class schedule that can work with their parenting schedule. Through the chaos of new parenthood, I want to support my students to prepare them for life after high school.
My Project
My students are learning about Personal Finance while balancing the demands of parenthood and school. The books will increase the students knowledge about money, saving and planning for a secure future financially.
We will use the books and infographics as a way of practicing and learning together as we explore the information and how it relates to their daily lives.
This will be an awesome opportunity to make the connections between math, social studies, science and money. The more connections that we offer students, the more successful they will be in class and in the world of "adulting.” We want our students to become active and positive parts of our community.
