My Students

I have 11 boys and 9 girls. They come from poverty stricken neighborhoods. They come from various cultural and economic backgrounds. This offers a great challenge for myself as well as my students. It also offers a great opportunity for people to work together and learn about others and their way of life. They attend an inner city Title I school that struggles to keep and maintain adequate equipment and supplies.

My Project

I am requesting a classroom NeatDesk, money manipulative's, and various books. Students will be able to take the concepts of money and financial management and address them from several angles. The books will give them a fun way to increase their exposure to counting and calculating skills. Using the manipulative's for example: the play money as part of pretending to give and receive change. This will give students a genuine experience where they can really learn to assess wants versus needs. They will be making real choices about money. With these resources, students can begin having in-depth discussions about the importance of spending, saving, and eventually investing. The NeatDesk will allow my students to design an individual paperless portfolio. This will provide students with a money management planner creatively.
