Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My second grade students are wonderful children! They are eager to learn and their minds are ready for me to teach in an engaging and creative way. When they sit quietly waiting for me to teach, I can't help to feel an overwhelming compassion and devotion to meet my students' needs academically and emotionally.
A legacy of Learning is to Teach, Transform, Touch the Future.
I tell my students every day to "Reach for the Gold!" My classroom theme is "The Olympics" full of thrive and consistency. As an educator, I am thankful to be able to learn different ways in how to teach in my class.
My students are from a diverse background, it is a low socioeconomic status, where 98% of the students are free or reduced lunch. The school works hard in making our students great and bright adults. I am humbled and ready to be able to help my students in any way I can.
My Project
For my students, learning about money is the hardest concept in 2nd grade. Hands-on activities and games seem to help build a good concept about money, and how to save or spend wisely.
Learning about how to invest, acquire, and finance money, in any grade level, has proven to be one of the most challenging skills learned.
Making change with play money is nearly impossible, without having the chance to play with plastic money. My students need more resources, like the requested Apple iPad and fire tablet. Through the applications, they will practice paying exact change, and making change with coins. They will access apps like Count Money, Freefall Money, Make Change, Coin Math, Koala Math Money, Splash Math, Jungle Coins, and My First Money. There are more than 200 other apps that can help my students learn to interact and manipulate US currency. Technology is interactive and engaging, and I want all my students to leave the classroom knowing how to save, invest, and acquire monetary skills at an early age. They will learn about production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services, so that one day, they can become entrepreneurs, financial advisers, and savvy consumers.
